Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS): Annual Doula Registry Update 

Thank you to everyone who completed the annual doula registry update survey. Please take a few moments to review the MDHHS Doula Registry and email MDHHS-MIDoula@michigan.gov to report any inaccuracies or request additional changes. Your participation and patience are much appreciated!


Save the Date: Michigan Doulas Do!

This pre-conference event to the Maternal Infant Health Summit (MIHS) will be held at the Radison Plaza Hotel in Kalamazoo on June 16, 2025 from 1:00 PM — 8:30 PM.

This one-of-a-kind, special event is open to any doula who registers for the MIHS. Registration opens March 2025 and the discounted cost to attend both events is $100.

Please join us in sharing, learning and creating together via hands-on, interactive skill sessions - with content highlighted by doulas for doulas.

Birth is Ceremony: Postpartum Nutrition, presented by Kaela Wabanimkee-Harris - an Anishinaabe from Northern Michigan. Kaela graduated from Wayne State University in Detroit, MI where she obtained a master’s degree in social work and is also a current and founding member of the Michigan Doula Advisory Council (DAC).

Pelvic Floor Support for Birthworkers, presented by Dr. Kamaria Washington, PT, DPT (also known as Dr. K). Dr. K is a proud Detroit native who founded Pelvic Noire Physical Therapy & Wellness. Through collaboration with midwives, doulas, obstetrician-gynecologists, urogynecologists, community health workers, and women’s health-focused organizations, Pelvic Noire has been able to serve hundreds of metro Detroit women during pregnancy and in their first year postpartum.

Register for "Pelvic Floor Support for Birthworkers"

 

High-Risk Pregnancy for Doulas (4-week series), presented by Nyasia Countee. Nyasia is the founder of Ancient Wisdom Birth Services, a national perinatal safe space; a certified birth and postpartum doula; a certified perinatal educator; a Michigan trainer for National Black Doulas Association; and a maternal mental health community health worker (CHW). Nyasia is also a current and founding member of the Michigan Doula Advisory Council (DAC).

Trainings will be offered every Monday in April from 1:00 PM — 03:00 PM (EDT). To encourage live participation and engagement, these sessions will not be recorded. Participants are not required to attend the entire series. Please register for preferred sessions using the links provided

Translated Doula Registry Application

In support of Michigan’s multi-lingual doulas, the MDHHS Doula Registry application has been translated to Spanish and Arabic and can be downloaded from the Become a Medicaid Enrolled Doula website page.
